I am Orton-Gillingham Comprehensive trained through IMSE. I use a systematic structured explicit approach for working with children that need spelling, decoding, and phonics using multi-sensory strategies.
Our first tutoring session will include an informal diagnostic spelling and phonics inventory to determine which spelling and phonic patterns are known. Emerging and early readers may be given a phonological awareness assessment.

I'll listen to your child read using an informal running record to analyze how they approach reading with text for accuracy, fluency, and comprehension. These informal assessments will be used to determine the next steps for our tutoring sessions. In addition, parents are welcome to share any teacher notes and school assessments.

After the first couple of sessions, I'll utilize various professional resources for evidence based strategies including phonemic awareness instruction, directed reading thinking activities, systematic phonics instruction and, Orton-Gillingham methodology to create individualized lesson plans. A personalized reading plan and summary are available for an additional fee.

Lessons are typically forty-five minutes with time for parent consult at end of lesson. In-person lessons are held at Ms. Freeman's Ashburn home. Parents are welcome to stay.

My Story
My name is Christina Freeman and I have been working as an educator for over twenty years as a classroom teacher, tutor, and reading specialist in Virginia. I believe in using evidence based reading strategies including Orton-Gillingham to teach reading. I have a Masters in Reading from the Universtiy of Virginia and a degree in Early Childhood/Elementary Education from Frostburg State University. I know what it is like to be student that struggles with reading. I recognize the importance of making a connection with my students by learning their interests and learning styles. It is my passion to make sure that the students that I work with learn phonetic code, become more confident, and enjoy the gift of reading.
